Today, we celebrated the conclusion of our July Science classes at Wild & Wonderful Enrichment, focusing on the rich ecosystems of Central and South America. As part of our curriculum using BookShark Science Level C, our students engaged in a comprehensive exploration of these diverse regions. They skillfully used maps to identify and discuss key areas such as the Andes Mountains, Amazon Forest, rainforests, and grasslands, enhancing their geographical and ecological knowledge.
Our session included reading from the "Usborne World of Animals," which provided a detailed look at the wildlife specific to each biome. To connect with current global events, and inspired by the Olympics, we crafted flags of various Central and South American countries, integrating cultural studies with our ecological exploration.
The children also designed their own Olympic games, including an egg toss, relay races, obstacle courses, and a long run, embodying the spirit of teamwork and competition.
In the afternoon, we tackled the important topic of avian habitats with "Where Can Birds Nest if a Habitat Disappears?" discussing various nesting types, native birds, and the engineering design process. Our young engineers then constructed birdhouses from recycled materials like plastic jugs and ice cream buckets, which they decorated creatively.
As we look forward to the next month, excitement builds for the start of our Lego League, with both an Explorer Team and a Challenge Team ready to dive into new challenges.
This wrap-up class not only marked the end of a fruitful month but also set the stage for continuous learning adventures. Follow us as we embark on more educational journeys with BookShark Science and gear up for our upcoming Lego League challenges. Stay tuned for more updates and join us in fostering a love for learning that goes beyond the classroom!
